Chapter 13:
Real-Time Imager Descriptions

Real-time imagers need to be described and characterized in a manner that has not been covered in the sensitivity analysis nor in the specifications of optical systems. Therefore, this chapter covers these descriptions and the extent of their applicability. These two terms represent the difference in levels between the target and the background. In the visible, black to white has a contrast of 100%, and this seems to be an intuitive concept. Modulation is quite similar to contrast, but has a slightly different mathematical expression.
