The input signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is theoretically a ratio of blackbody radiations from the scene. It is a good starting place, so we will evaluate it; in many cases its value is not far from a very carefully evaluated actual scene. Then we will look at some data about the real scene, although this is a highly variable and highly statistical set of data.
