Abstract
The 1.06-mm transition in Nd:YAG is the most well known and widely used. However, as with many rare earth ions, the Nd ion has several electronic levels that can produce emission at other wavelengths. A partial energy level diagram for Nd:YAG is illustrated in Fig. 7.1. Two transitions have been diode-pumped and are of interest for several applications. They are the 1.3-mm and the 946-nm transitions. Diode-pumped laser operation at these two wavelengths is discussed briefly in this section.
