Abstract

After we consider the fundamental MTF contributions arising from the optics, the sensor array, and the electronics, we must look at the MTF contributions arising from image motion, image vibration, atmospheric turbulence, and aerosol scattering. We briefly consider a first-order analysis of these additional contributions to system MTF; our heuristic approximate approach is a back-of-the-envelope estimate for the image-quality impact of these effects and provides a starting point against which to compare the results of a more advanced analysis.
