Abstract
In image compression applications, the choice of a method is often linked to its computational complexity and storage cost. Lattice vector quantization (LVQ) is very fast and does not require the construction of the codebook like LBG-based algorithms. This particularity is very attractive for low bit rate applications. However, LVQ indexing is a key problem for transmission and storage purposes. We recently proposed a new indexing algorithm that provides a good tradeoff between computational complexity and storage requirements. This paper is concerned with the design of a specific multi-DSP architecture for this new method in a real time and low bit rate coding context.
