Abstract
A behavioral model of a wavelength-division multiplexing communication network for transporting data at SONET/SDH OC-192 using VHDL is described. VHDL simulation results are given for the SONET frame generator, electrical-to-optical conversion, data transporter, and optical-to-electrical conversion. Relative bitdelay, due to wavelength dispersion, between adjacent bits is included in the model of a 10-km transmission link.
