The fundamental concept of the visual range of a low-light-level imaging system is described. Based on a revised apparent distance detection equation, the relations of parameters that have an influence on system performance are analyzed. Combined with the research on CY-1 night vision goggle, the visual range under specific circumstances is estimated, proving the revised apparent distance detection equation is effective and the design of the system is feasible.
