Abstract
A near-forward and a wide scattering angle optical particle counter were carefully calibrated and aligned, using monosized latex particles. Good correlation was obtained both for number concentration and particle size response. Systematic differences, however, were found when the two instruments were then used to observe laboratory air. Different concentration data were produced by the two instruments in their equivalent size ranges, indicating that ambient air particles are sized differently than are latex particles; the differences vary in extent over the overall size ranges of the two instruments.
