1 October 1982 On The Analysis Of An All-Reflective Zoom Optical System For The Infrared

Abstract
Recently a design was reported on a system of multiple moving mirrors which simulates an approaching or receding radiating source. Its particular features were a zoom capability of 30:1 and a total scaling range of 800:1. The mirror system operates with programmed stepper motors that provide the required mirror movements. In this paper, dynamics of the mirror system are analyzed from a different point of view which results in lower mirror velocities that are more compatible with commercially available motors and slides. Maximum velocities of the mirrors are then calculated, and the sensitivity of these maximum velocities to the simulated variables and the optical system parameters is also computed.
