Abstract
The reversible nonlinear interface (RNI) devices as universal logic gates are discussed. The optical implementation of a generalized pipeline cellular array using these devices for multifunctional binary arithmetic unit is proposed. This approach may eliminate geometrical constraints imposed in electronic implementation and, therefore, facilitate direct microminiaturization.
