Abstract
A review of various types of active and passive mode-locked lasers is presented. Theoretical and experimental aspects of mode locking are covered. Stabilization schemes used in mode-locked laser systems are described. Techniques used in the measurement of the time duration of the ultrashort pulses and the uses of high-power, low-power, and picosecond pulses are given.
