Abstract
A procedure is described for the design of quadrilayer structures that enhance the polar Kerr effect in magneto-optic recording media. An essential feature of the method is a systematic approach that enables the achievement of phase optimization, which results in the elimination of the undesirable eftects of parasitic Kerr ellipticity. Examples are presented based on the Co/Pt superlattice and amorphous TbFeCo. The spectral and angular performances of fabricated devices are compared with theory.
