Abstract
The direct-view CRT, because of its readily available technologies, is considered one of the most viable approaches for high-definition television (HDTV) displays. The advantages of using a direct-view CRT include its brightness, contrast, resolution, viewing angles, etc. However, because the engineering requirement for a HDTV display is much higher than that for a standard TV, improvements in all these areas are needed. A review of the current status and the potential for further improvements are discussed in detail.
