Abstract
A method is discussed for determining range using an image blurred by lateral translation of the camera optical axis. We describe a system consisting of rotating and stationary mirrors that accomplish optical axis translation without actual motion of the camera. Three different methods for determining the range from motion blur are presented. Experimental results for both synthetic images and images using the rotating mirror apparatus are discussed. It is concluded that the optical apparatus performs adequately and that two of the computational schemes are appropriate for further study using more complex images.
