Abstract
We present a theoretical evaluation of third-order susceptibilities appropriate for the Kerr effect of some doped alkali halides using an electronic anharmonic oscillator and three-dimensional coupled anharmonic oscillator models. We estimate the electronic and ionic contributions to the susceptibility and highlight the effect of doping on the nonlinearities of wide-bandgap crystals.
