The reflectance characteristics of biological tissues depend on their color, composition, and blood content. To determine these characteristics, a computer-based He-Ne laser light reflectometer, consisting of the microprocessor-controlled movement of the sample platform to scan the entire tissue and simultaneous transfer of data to a PC-AT to obtain the perspective plots, is developed. The results obtained from various tissues and their combinations show that the reflectance pattern, as obtained by this method, helps to identify the tissues as well as the abnormalities embedded with in these structures.
