In 1970, Antoine Labeyrie proposed the technique of astronomical speckle interferometry, and shortly afterwards demonstrated its effectiveness by producing, for the very first time, diffraction-limited fullaperture resolution from the 5-m Hale telescope at Mount Palomar [see Gezari, Labeyrie and Stachnik, Astrophys. J., 173 L1 (1972)].
