Abstract
An optimum training process using a simulated annealing algorithm for synthesizing a spatial domain bipolar composite reference function (BCRF) is presented. The major advantages of the proposed BCRF filter are out-of-plane rotation invariance, higher discriminability (in particular, for similar targets), and convenience for optical implementation of a BCRF filter using a photorefractive (PR) crystal in a VanderLugt correlator is provided, in which we show that the experimental results agree with the simulation.
