Abstract
We apply Bayesian parameter estimation theory to the problem of locating a known target in an image. We investigate the incorporation of prior information regarding the target location, the presence of a background, the target illumination, and the assumption of spatially disjoint target and background. We obtain the posterior probability density functions for the target location in these different cases, together with the corresponding maximum a posteriori (MAP) estimators.
