In the bimodal optical computer, linear and nonlinear acts occur in rapid succession generating solutions to Ax=b. Both chaos and stochastic resonance can appear in some cases. This is the first observation of such complexity effects in optical processors. © 1999 Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers. [S0091-3286(99)00903-4]
