Abstract
Human face location is an important basis for automatic face recognition systems. We define one kind of symmetry transform called the directional symmetry transform (DST) that can provide more information for shape analysis in addition to the characteristics of symmetry. When applied to object detection, it can provide much more convenience. One fast algorithm based on the DST is proposed for face location from frontal face images with simple backgrounds. The experimental results show its effectiveness.
