We propose and demonstrate an externally modulated AM-vestigial sideband (VSB) CATV erbium- doped fiber amplifier-repeated system which uses an optical single sideband modulation technique to improve the composite second order (CSO) and composite triple beat (CTB) performances in systems. In comparison with conventional externally modulated fiber optical CATV systems, excellent performances of carrier-to-noise ratio >50 dB, CSO?72 dB, and CTB?69 dB were achieved for the full channel band over a 100-km single-mode fiber transport.
