Abstract
Optimal design is discussed for bidirectionally pumped Raman transmission systems. An optimal design algorithm is proposed for bidirectionally pumped fiber Raman amplifiers (BDP-FRAs), optimal pumping and gain schemes are analyzed for BDP-Raman systems, and the possibility of long-haul transmission is numerically verified for 7200-km 16-×10.66-Gbits/s and 2400-km 16-×42.7-Gbits/s BDP-Raman systems based on a common single-mode fiber (SMF) link.
