1 January 2007 Analysis of the externally introduced spherical aberration when testing an assembled image forming optical system with Hartmann test

Abstract
When testing an assembled image forming optical system to measure the on-axis wavefront shape, we have the practical impossibility of taking out the lens. However, there is a possibility of using the Hartmann test, as was previously done by some researchers, but some special precautions must be taken as described here. We will show that some extra spherical aberration is introduced and will make an estimation of its magnitude. Some proposals for reducing this aberration will be made.
