Abstract
We propose and demonstrate a flexible and filter-free method to generate ultrawideband monocycle and doublet pulses utilizing cross-gain modulation in a semiconductor optical amplifier. The counter-propagation scheme and UWB-over-fiber technology is implemented by exploiting dispersion-induced pulse broadening effect in a single-mode fiber. Owing to the counter-propagation scheme, the pump and probe light can be the same wavelength, which could provide the system better dispersion performance.
