Abstract
A type of homodyne coherent optical communication system is proposed on the basis of a reflex electro-optic modulator. To measure the performance of this system, the effect of a 100-Gb/s dual polarization-quadrature phase-shift keying system is simulated using OptiSystem software and MATLAB code. The compensation for chromatic dispersion, polarization mode dispersion, and nonlinear impairment is carried out by means of digital signal processing. The results show that the performance of the reflective homodyne coherent optical communication system is feasible. It solves the phase-shift problem caused by the frequency offset between the transmitter and local oscillator as well as the laser linewidth. The technique may be useful in practical engineering systems.
