Abstract
By applying finite impulse response filtering in conjunction with a median operation, the edges as well as the fine details in the input image can be preserved. The finite impulse response—median hybrid filter thus obtained is computationally more efficient and preserves both details and edges better than conventional median filters. The optical implementation of such a hybrid filter is discussed in this paper.
