Abstract
We describe the use of data validation routines within the context of a tiled phase unwrapping algorithm used in fringe analysis. A review of current and past techniques for phase unwrapping is included and the relative advantages of the tiled strategy are discussed. In all, four validation methods are presented, although we point out that any user would probably have to select their own set of tests based on the particular optical arrangement employed and the physics of the experiment. An example unwrap is included along with some discussion of the merits of using the tests in the light of the processing requirements.
