Abstract
Change of optical properties for glasses and glass ceramics of the SiO2, A12O3, CaO, MgO, and TiO2 type resulting from structural phase transformations under the local influence of laser radiation is discussed. A CO2 laser with wavelength 10.6 .μm and output power up to 60 W is used in the experiments. It is shown that the change of the ratio between crystalline and amorphous phases induced in this manner in the chosen materials can be used to form micro-optical elements in optical information transfer and processing systems. The change of optical properties in titanium-keeping glass films is also considered when their thermal instability in crystallization is stimulated by local heating with laser radiation.
