A reticle for the verification of the correct operation of the phase Doppler particle analyzer (PDPA) is presented. As an alternative to common calibration devices such as a droplet generator or reticles, we introduce a new reticle that consists of a single polymer microlens affixed to a glass substrate. The microlens reticle, when placed in the measurement volume of the PDPA, scatters light in a manner similar to that of a droplet. We report on results from tests performed using three microlens reticles of the same diameter and two models of the PDPA.
