Abstract

Optical readout of digital volume reflection holograms (DVRHs) using a liquid crystal spatial light modulator (LC-SLM) as a holographic optical element is demonstrated. This is achieved by first computing the optical field at the exit of the composite DVRH, which is generated numerically from multiple digital transmission holograms recorded at different wavelengths. This complex output field is then appropriately introduced as an electrical input into the LC-SLM operated in phase-only and amplitude-only modes. The effectiveness of the LC-SLM for optical readout with high wavelength selectivity is investigated.
