Profile Summary

Alexey Popov graduated from Physics Department of M.V. Lomonosov Moscow State University (Russia) in 2003, received his PhD in 2006 from the same university and his D.Sc.(Tech.) degree from the University of Oulu (Finland) in 2008. He performed his postdoctoral research also in Oulu, with frequent visits abroad and formed an extensive collaboration network spreading from Australia to Russia and Europe. He is currently an assistant professor in the University of Oulu focusing on research and supervision of Master's and Doctoral students. His scientific interests are in the area of nanobiophotonics, nanoparticle-light-tissue-cell interaction, including biotissue-mimicking phantoms, deep-tissue imaging using up-conversion nanoparticles, enhancement of skin UV protection by sunscreens, cell optoporation by plasmonic nanostructures. He has published 70+ papers in peer-reviewed journals and SPIE proceedings and polished his leadership and communication skills when organizing three conferences in Finland: Advanced Laser Technologies (ALT) in 2007, Laser Applications in Life Sciences (LALS) in 2010 and Optics Days (2011). He is a member of International Program Committee of Saratov Fall Meeting and a member of advisory board of the LALS conference.
