Profile Summary

Andrew F. Kurtz is currently a Principal Scientist at IMAX Corporation in Rochester, NY, following extended employement at Eastman Kodak Company. He has worked on the development of optical technologies and systems in various fields, including film scanning, laser printing, image projection and display, and video capture.

Mr. Kurtz received both B.S. and M.S. degrees in Optics from the University of Rochester. He was recognized as a Kodak Distinguished Inventor, for having contributed to over 80 issued US patents related to optics and optical systems. This work has also resulted in several published papers and a book chapter on the design of laser thermal printing systems. Mr. Kurtz is a recipient of a 1998 Emmy Award from the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences for Outstanding Achievement in Engineering Development for his work on the optics for the Spirit Datacine telecine system. He is also a Guest Lecturer at the Motion Picture Science Program in the School of Film & Animation at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT).
