We demonstrate a real-time, high-accuracy, non-contacting optoelectronic sensing system for measuring the
steel rope tensile deformation. Tensile deformation of steel rope is detected in real-time using a linear CCD.
For high-accuracy measurement, floating threshold method is used to binarize and distinguish the difference
between the testing objects and the background. By using the linear fitting, 1.4% relative error at tensile
deformation range from 0 to 10 mm is realized. Some improvements for increasing the precision of the measurement are proposed.
