SC306: Fiber Waveguide Optical Engineering
Fiber and waveguide devices are the heart of optical communications technology. This course begins with the essential concepts in the optics of fiber and waveguide devices and proceeds into modeling of cutting edge applications. Simple ray concepts and closed form solutions are explained as well as the basis of eigenmode solutions. Numerical solutions, such as the beam propagation method (BPM) provide the power necessary to model complex, real-world devices. Numerous devices and effects are discussed and illustrated; some with computer generated videos.
SC307: Physical Optics Modeling
Physical optics is essential for understanding and designing most modern optical systems from conventional laser systems to integrated optics. This course presents the necessary principles and numerical modeling methods to empower the attendee to solve problems with any of the modern diffraction computer programs. Numerous applications are illustrated; some with computer generated videos.
