Profile Summary

Jeff Siewerdsen is Professor of Imaging Physics, Radiation Physics, and Neurosurgery as well as Director of Surgical Data Science in the Institute for Data Science in Oncology (IDSO) at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. He was previously Vice-Chair and John C. Malone Professor of Biomedical Engineering at Johns Hopkins University and founding Co-Director of the Carnegie Center for Surgical Innovation with cross-appointment in Computer Science, Radiology, and the Armstrong Institute for Patient Safety and Quality. He obtained his PhD in Physics at the University of Michigan (1998), after which he was a Research Scientist at William Beaumont Hospital (1998-2002) and then a Senior Scientist at the Ontario Cancer Institute / University of Toronto (2002-2009). His main interests are in image-guided procedures, data-intensive modeling, the physics of medical imaging, digital x-ray and cone-beam CT systems for diagnostic and image-guided procedures, and multi-modality image registration and analytics. His current and previous professional activities include service to the AAPM (Science Council, Board of Directors, and Scientific Program Director), the SPIE (Program Committees for Physics of Medical Imaging and Image-Guided Procedures), the RSNA (Program Committee Liaison), the APS (Program Director and Committee Member for the Topic Group on Medical Physics, GMED), and SIIM-CMIMI (Scientific Program Committee). He is a Fellow of the AAPM (FAAPM), AIMBE (FAIMBE), and SPIE (FSPIE).
