Profile Summary

Joaquín Pérez received M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Telecommunications engineering from Universitat Politécnica de Valencia, Spain, in 2004 and 2009, respectively.

From 2003 to 2009, he was a Research Assistant at the Valencia Nanophotonics Technology Center (NTC) of the Universitat Politècnica de València, Spain working in wireless photonic integration communication systems and ultra wideband radio over fibre systems. In 2010, he joined the Optical Communications Research group, Northumbria Communications Research Lab at Northumbria University, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, United Kingdom, as a Research Fellow.

Since 2014, he is with the Optical and Quantum Communications Group (OQCG) at ITEAM research institute of the Universitat Politècnica de València, Spain as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow under "Juan de la Cierva" Fellowship Programme.

His research interests include microwave photonics, quantum optics, secure systems. optical wireless communications, photonics integrated systems and optical access networks. He is open also for collaboration at any interesting research topic on telecomms, optics physics and others.

He has participated in several international research projects, e.g. IST-UROOF, ICT-UCELLS, EU COST action IC0802 and IC1101, and published more than 60 works in recognized international journals and conferences

Course Instructor
NON-SPIE: Optical wireless Systems
The aim of this course is to understand the theoretical basis and see the most significant applications currently being developed in the field of microwave photonics. After an introduction to the applications of microwave photonics, the MWP systems are studied in general, followed by the study of the microwave photonic filters, optical pre-filtering of microwave signal, delay lines for optical shaping of beams, optoelectronic oscillators, A/D converters and techniques of photonic generation of RF signals.
