Profile Summary

■ Martin Fally studied Mathematics and Physics at the University of Vienna, Austria. During his Master's thesis on crystal growth he worked for the company AVL (Graz) and received a Master's degree in Physics & Mathematics (High-school teacher) in 1991. During his PhD thesis on structural phase transitions he was employed as a University Assistant and was awarded a doctorate in Physics in 1996. After a short period doing research on Fullerenes he switched to the subject of holography and neutron optics with R.A. Rupp and gained his Habilitation (professorial qualification) in 2003, being appointed an Extraordinary Professor. In 2003/2004 he held a Visiting Professorship at the University of Osnabrueck, Germany and returned to the Faculty of Physics, University of Vienna in 2005, where he currently acts as a Vice-Dean of the Faculty.
■ Focus of Research: Neutron optics and interferometry based on holographically patterned nonlinear optical media, neutron diffraction and diffraction theories, materials science (polymer-liquid crystals, polymer-nanoparticle composites)
■ Authored or co-authored a patent, 4 book chapters and about 80 publications in renowned international journals covering the fields of holography, neutron-diffraction, photorefractive materials, holographic techniques, diffraction theories, interferometry
