WS1081: KHET in the Classroom - Teaching Optics Principles using The Laser Game: KHET 2.0
This course will lead participants though structured educational activities based on The Laser Game: KHET 2.0. These activities, using the kit provided, can be employed by teachers and outreach volunteers to educate and excite students about a variety of optical principles. KHET is an award-winning game that uses lasers and mirrored pieces to stimulate spatial relationships and logical thinking. Teachers using the kit have discovered that students get genuinely excited about lessons based on a "real" game and learn and retain the information better than when taught in traditional lecture formats. The kits, developed by the instructor (one of the creators of KHET) in collaboration with pre-college teachers, present an activity-oriented and inquiry-based approach that supports the introduction of the basic principles of light and optics education. Whether you are conducting a class or assisting a teacher, the KHET Educational Kit will aid you in taking students from identification of prior knowledge through a hands-on process that includes questioning, guided experimentation, group discussion and collaboration, and options for further research and challenge.
