SC1140: Surface Multiplasmonics
This course will present the methodology of formulating and solving for surface plasmon polariton (SPP) waves guided by the interface of a metal with a periodically nonhomogeneous dielectric material film such as a photonic crystal or a sculptured thin film. Such interfaces can support more than one SPP wave at the same frequency but with different phase speeds, attenuation rates, and degrees of localization to the interface. The main goal of the course is to make the participants aware of the basic machinery of electromagnetics used for research on surface waves. The knowledge gained during the course will also be applicable to other types of surface waves such as Tamm waves.
