Profile Summary

Phil Crosby trained in electronics and communications engineering with ICL and British Telecom in the UK before relocating to the Pilbara (WA) as a contracted engineer in mining communications. Phil later operated his own industrial engineering firm in Sydney until 1983, followed by several years in the environmental field. He then spent 12 years with the National Association of Testing Authorities, Australia in the field of developing and auditing technical management standards for industry and Government.

Phil has led several major tech¬nical studies, including an impact assessment of Australia’s Antarctic research stations, and a review of the Australia Nuclear Science & Technology Organisation. During 2005, Phil was an embedded executive in The Boeing Company, responsible for industrial participation strategy implementation.

Phil now divides much of his time between the Square Kilometre Array mega-infrastructure project in the UK, and business and strategy work for CSIRO Astronomy & Space Science. he also serves on numerous space and astronomy related panels including the GMT Science & Industry Working Group, the Engineers Aust National Committee in Space Engineering, and is a member of the 2016-2025 Astronomy Decadal Plan Industry Working Group.

Apart from technical qualifications in engineering, quality assurance, and environmental management, he holds a Business degree and the Company Directors Diploma (GAICD). Phil recently completed a PhD from Curtin University of Technology. His thesis addressed the topic of improving the success of mega-engineering projects, and he has several peer-reviewed papers on the topic published in international journals.
