A simple two-section PMD compensator is proposed for multichannel PMD compensation, which can
compensate two or even more channels in DWDM systems simultaneously. It is shown that the outage
probability of a 40×43Gbps DWDM transmission system using this compensator is decreased significantly from
3.6E-3 to 3.6E-5.
We demonstrated an adaptive polarization mode dispersion (PMD) compensation in one channel of a 40 channel dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) transmission system with 40Gbps carrier suppressed return to zero (CS-RZ) modulation format.
A novel method to suppress the waveform distortion and compress frequency chirp in SOAs as in-line amplifiers in WDM networks is proposed and experimented. The results show that the signal distortion and pattern effect are reduced significantly and over 5dB expansion of input dynamic range is achieved.
10Gb/s optical internet network (NSFCnet) in china with protection switching function and performance monitoring is introduced in this paper. 16x10Gb/s Transmission is demonstrated over 400km SMF with 3 network elements consisting of multiplxers and demultiplxers. The power penalties for all 16 channels are measured to be less than 2dB (BER=10<SUP>-10</SUP>).
