This course introduces the basic concepts involved in the design and performance of diode-pumped solid-state lasers. These lasers have reached maturity in recent years. The key problems, limitations, and advantages of diode-pumped lasers are described in detail, and a diode-pumped laser resonator is designed and analyzed. Both end-pumping and side-pumping are presented, and techniques are described for efficient diode-pumping of a wide range of materials including Nd:YAG, Cr:LiSAF and laser dyes.
