Profile Summary

Spiros (Spyridon) Mikroulis (B.Sc., M.Sc., PhD) was born on Corfu in the 9th May of 1973. He finished his BSc in Physics, specialized in Microelectronics in 1999 and his MSc in Microelectronics-Optoelectronics in 2001, both in University of Crete, Physics Department, Heraklion, Greece. In 2007 he completed his PhD at the University of Athens, Department of Physics, entitled: «STUDY OF SEMICONDUCTOR MICRORING DEVICES FOR REALIZATION OF PHOTONIC FUNCTIONS IN ALL-OPTICAL NETWORKS»
For years 1998-2001 he worked as a research associate in the microelectronics research group (MRG), FORTH, where he worked on MBE growth of AlGaAs and AlGaN based devices for applications in high frequency/high power HEMT based transmitters in wireless communications and LED/LASER blue light emitters. In 2000 he was awarded for the best early stage career researcher work in the MMN2000 organized by NCSR Demokritos/IEML regarding his research work in high power/ frequency GaN based HEMT devices.
He collaborated for several years (2003-2011), as a researcher, at the optical communication group in the Department of Informatics and Telecommunications, University of Athens where he worked on several projects of the FP6-7 EU framework.
Since 2004 he was a Lecturer at the TEI of Athens and he was teaching several courses
in the area of fiber-wireless communications, antennas-transmission lines, and Optoelectronics.
In parallel, during 2012 he was also collaborating as a senior researcher with the AIT/Intracom in Athens.
On July 2013 he joined UCL Electronic Engineering as a Principal Researcher, where he was awarded an FP7-PEOPLE Marie Curie-IntraEuropean Fellowship (MC-IEF), in the area of mm wave radio over fiber devices & systems.
In parallel we worked on enterprize projects for 5G.
In 2016 he joined Huawei, German R&D center. His roles include R&D project management on Silicon Photonics for DCN/5G, Technology development planning on Photonics for 5G & Research in QKD subsystems
