Long-distance and high-precision fiber microwave frequency transmission

The frequency transfer over long-distance optical fiber link is one of the important research subjects in the field of time and frequency. It can not only meet the transmission and comparison requirements of the current fountain reference clock, but also frequency transmission and synchronization of the RF antenna array and so on. Fiber optic microwave frequency transmission technology, as an important component of the construction of high-precision ground-based time service systems, will build over 2000 kilometers of fiber optic microwave frequency transmission links. Therefore, it is of great scientific value and application significance to carry out frequency transmission experiments with single stage transmission of several hundred kilometers. In this article, an electrical phase compensation scheme is adopted for the transmission of fiber optic microwave frequency. On the round-trip propagation link, microwave signals of different frequencies are transmitted to avoid the influence of parasitic reflection, achieving long-distance fiber microwave frequency transmission of 341km urban fiber link. Unidirectional EDFA with higher gain was used to amplify the optical power in the link. Due to the different tail fiber lengths of unidirectional EDFA, it increases the asymmetry of fiber optic link transmission. Therefore, in order to reduce the impact of unidirectional EDFA in the fiber optic link, it was placed in a constant temperature box for experimentation. The transmission stability of 341km urban optical fiber was 4.34×10^-14/s and 5.78×10^-18/10⁵s. Through this experiment, it is of great significance for the construction of a thousand kilometers level fiber optic microwave frequency transmission system.
