SC343: UV Induced Index Changes and Fiber Bragg Gratings
This course covers the basics of UV induced processes in optical fibers, fiber grating theory, and the methods of fabricating fiber gratings. Also included in the course are discussions of fiber grating characteristics such as photosensitization, apodization, dispersion, and bandwidth control, coupling to cladding and radiation modes, polarization effects, temperature and strain responses, thermal compensation, and reliability issues. The course discusses of the large variety of applications of fiber gratings to telecommunications, lasers, and sensors.
