Billy is a postgraduate student at the University of New South Wales currently undertaking a PhD in experimental condensed matter physics with Professor Dane McCamey.
His primary interests lie in understanding the interactions between microscopic spins in organic semiconductors and the effect they have on the opto-electronic processes in these devices. To achieve this, he utilises a novel imaging technique to measure the spatial variation and correlation of spin-dependent properties in organic light emitting diodes in order to reveal the role of spin in the charge-to-light conversion process. These investigations aim to characterise quantum properties localised in the thin organic films to enable additional device functionality in the form of magnetic field sensing.
