Content centric networking (CCN) is a novel and increasingly popular paradigm for data dissemination. In contrast to host centric IP networking, CCN is more suitable to Internet of things (IoT) scenario. Smart building is one of the special scenarios of IoT and many CCN architectures have been proposed in literature to exploit CCN’s data dissemination capability. However, it is less studied to use CCN in supporting clients to control sensor devices and to continually send interest packets get sensors’ reading. This paper describes a general service centric smart building architecture using a Context Driven Content Centric Network (CD-CCN) scheme, which can handle the diversity of devices, services, applications and context. Especially, this paper focuses on building an overall smart building network topology, routing and naming structures, to fit CD-CCN into a building network. The simulation results show that CD-CCN outperforms the conventional TCP/IP structure in terms of round-trip delay, due to CCN’s storage and broadcast characteristic, especially in scenarios such as message delivering and content sharing
