Giant nonlinear refraction has been experimentally observed in gold island films. The real part of the third-order
nonlinear susceptibility χ(3)(ω;ω,-ω,ω) reaches a value of -8×10-5 esu (λ = 532 nm, τ = 10 ns) and +5×10-7 esu (λ = 800
nm, τ = 85 fs). The mechanism of nonlinearity of the refractive index can be associated with the resonance enhancement
of the factor of the local optical field at the pump wavelength due to the excitation of surface plasmons, as well as with
the contribution of the heating of conduction electrons in an ensemble of metal particles.
The spectral widening of radiation of femtosecond Cr4+:forsterite laser in high nonlinear optical fiber is studied. Generation of spectral supercontinuumin near infrared range in the variable dispersion fiber obtained by femtosecond pulses of Cr4+:forsterite laser working in the self synchronization regime is realized.
A new resist composition based on PMMA-MAA copolymer with antracene additive was exposed by a single
pulse of KrFexcimer laser (X =248 nm). Its contrast was found to exceed significantly the limit
determined by light absorbtion. Studies of the development kinetics of the resist and corresponding
theoretical reasoning justify the assumption of a thermal activated process (boiling of the residual
dissolver).
