The design of a portable FBG Interrogation System is presented in this paper. By using volume holographic phase
grating as the dispersion spectral element, the interrogator achieves 5 KHz scanning frequency with a readout
wavelength resolution of 1 pm. The total power consumption is less than 25 W.
In this paper, the design and development of a low power, low cost and portable FBG Interrogation System is presented.
The FBG interrogator consists of a spectral analyzer module, a photo detection module, and an electronic processing
module. By using volume holographic phase grating as the continuous dispersion spectral element, our interrogator can
achieve a maximum scanning frequency as high as 5 KHz for a single channel with a total power requirement of 25 W.
Ethernet is being groomed as the ISP WAN media protocol of the future, both for home users and the corporate market. The need to develop a standard for Ethernet in the first mile (EFM) was given enthusiastic endorsement by main access equipment providers. Ethernet solutions in the first mile enable designers of hardware systems to use the installed base of 300 million Ethernet ports and merchant industry of chipsets and optics. Standardization efforts for this emerging technology are already underway. This paper describes the media access control (MAC) design for the tree-topology Ethernet Passive Optical Network (EPON) system.
